Bay Area House Hackers, what's your story

Posted

Hi everyone, I'm new to the BP community and currently live in the bay area. Because I'm new to the community and specifically to house hacking, I have so many questions and would love to hear about how you all got started. You don't have to be from the bay area specifically but if you are then amazing. Would just be easier to compare myself to where you were when you started. Please reach out, any and everything would help a lot.

@Daniel Solano Wolfe

I grew up north of San Francisco and decided to live and invest in Reno, NV.

Wanted to find somewhere that was much more landlord friendly, was still close to Northern CA, close to Lake Tahoe, more affordable properties, etc.

Started with a 5 bedroom and continued on to another 5 bedroom. Renting by the room can be a powerful strategy.

As Carlos said, there are plenty of people house hacking in the Bay, but the obvious things you need to be comfortable with are the prices and the landlord/tenant laws.

Best of luck to you!
