Built basement kitchen, is it covered?

Bill Graham
Posted

Hi,

I built a basement kitchen to add a unit in the basement, I didn’t get permits, just built it with local contractors and my own skills.

Is it covered under my home insurance?
do I need to call my insurance company and tell them I built it and it’s not permitted?

Is it covered when built without a permit?
Is my tenants use of it covered in the event of a fire if they burn the house down? Or if the wiring was bad and burns the house down?

Basically is it covered bc I didn’t get a permit and just built it?

Thanks!
