Quote from @Bruce Woodruff:

Nope, not covered. Any accident and you're screwed....your Insurance Company will not cover any damages or worse yet, injuries. And when you go to sell, this will be a big issue if your buyers and their agent aren't dummies.

I would go to the City and confess. plead ignorance and ask for a special inspection. See if they will do a Retro Permit for you... trust me it's worth it

What if I only installed a wall, door, and egress window to add a bedroom in another property that had a second living room, I didn’t change any electrical or plumbing. Would the house be covered for events?

Lets say an unrelated event like a main area kitchen fire, or tenant candle, or plumbing fitting broke and flooded the basement.
am I covered for those events?
Does only thing related to my unpermited wall door and egress window cause non coverage for things related to it?
im not sure what a wall door or egress windo could do to cause an event.

That was long winded but are you following what I’m trying to say?

Hi,

I built a basement kitchen to add a unit in the basement, I didn’t get permits, just built it with local contractors and my own skills.

Is it covered under my home insurance?
do I need to call my insurance company and tell them I built it and it’s not permitted?

Is it covered when built without a permit?
Is my tenants use of it covered in the event of a fire if they burn the house down? Or if the wiring was bad and burns the house down?

Basically is it covered bc I didn’t get a permit and just built it?

Thanks!

Hi everyone!

I’m moving out of my house back in Denver so it’s no longer my primary, does this require a change my home insurance?
Do I need to call my insurance and tell them it’s all tenants?
does it need
I don’t want a event like a fire or flood and they ask I live there and I say no and they say I should of had some other kind of insurance and the house isn’t covered and a total loss that I now owe all the money on bc there’s no insurance coverage. That would be a disaster.

Thank you!
