House hacking in the Atlanta suburbs

Juwan Parker
Posted

Hello!
my girlfriend and I are looking for a multi family house hack in the in-between places of Atlanta and Athens. Next year I will be going to law school in Athens and she will be continuing law school in Atlanta. We were thinking Lawrenceville, Buford, Sugar Loaf areas, is there any other areas we should be looking into?

@Juwan Parker - I disagree with the previous sentiment, if you can find a duplex and rent one half / have a roommate on your side, you may have your entire PITI covered. Who cares what interest rates are at, all you're solving for at this point in your journey is eliminating your housing expense. If you can not pay rent and pay down a mortgage simultaneously compared to paying a couple thousand for a 2 bed unit, that's a win in my book.

In my humble opinion, achieving financial independence is about having your passive income exceed your expenses. Most people go after the income side, but when you selectively target your highest cost expenses, achieving FI becomes that much more achievable.
