Window World

The company 'Window World' is advertising any white double hung window replacement installed for $189. Has anyone had any experience with them? Do they honor this price? If not, do people have a good place they go for replacement windows?

Thanks.

Window World has come under fire from the Better Business Bureau about the accuracy of their $189 claim. The specific problems were:

Originally posted by Better Business Bureau:
“questions of whether the advertised price accurately reflected all charges involved in the purchase and whether a window could be purchased for $189 installedâ€

“whether the company could indeed offer any size window for $189â€

You can read it for yourself right here: http://www.nwnc.bbb.org/codbrep.html?wlcl=y&id=10001702

That lines up with an article in a recent Replacement Contractor Magazine that estimated the actual price of the $189 window is around $300 or more once you add in “miscellaneous†installation charges like landfill disposal and measuring.

Even at that price the window is a frame and double pane glass. It doesn’t include energy-efficient Low-E and gas fills, and that’s what will make it qualify for the $1,500 energy tax credit. You’ll need to upgrade from the $189 double hung if you want windows that will save you money and energy. I don’t know the actual price of the upgrade, but an educated guess is between $400 and $575. If you shop for price options and get a few estimates, you’ll see that’s a more realistic cost for a plain white vinyl window with all the add-ons.

As for their service and installation, that’s really a hit or miss situation. The company uses sub-contractors so you can get lucky and then again, maybe not. Check out your local dealer with the BBB and ask for multiple references from the sales person. I suggest you be extra careful with a dealer that subcontracts their work.

I hope that helps you out. If you have any more questions about replacement windows, you can always ask at askmrrogers.com.
