Bought My First House and I need to Live in 1 Unit

David Duh
Posted

Hi everyone, I just bought my first house in upstate New York and I plan on house hacking. It is a 2 unit and I plan to do a full renovation of both units, but the issue is that there are tenants in both units. I need at least 1 unit to be free for me to move into since I used a conventional loan to buy the property and I preferably would like both out so I can do the full renovation easily. What are my options?

Hi David, you have a good plan. Anytime house hacking is an option I think people should go for it. How far upstate are you?

So I can give you some options but I need a little more information.

1. Did any of the tenants sign an estoppel agreement prior to/after closing?

2. Do you know how long they've been there for?

3. Are any of them receiving public assistance such as section 8?
