Keeping thieves from stealing your furnace, etc during vacancy.

Hi,

Aside from using Dawgs, removing appliances, etc. Does putting in the listing that "house is occupied by sitter" or " house has alarm/cameras" help with deterrence? I feel that posting a vacancy can invite thieves as your advertising that your house is vacant. Thoughts?

It's not mentioned often, but purchasing in the right location is the #1 prevention method. We have managed up to 400 units and never once had a Tenant steal an appliance or fixture from a home. It happens every day in Cleveland.

Security cameras are an option, but they only record the theft. You still have to catch the thief, retrieve the items, and reinstall them.

If it's a big risk, I would focus heavily on warning signs and neighborhood watch.
