Get Property manager vs. Build your own team?

Hi,

I am struggling to find a reputable STR property manager.

One ripped me off several thousand dollars (e.g. I never got my money back and they didn't ever deliver property management service. No contact).

At this point, I'm wondering, would it be worth it to create my own team? If anyone prefers one over the other, what roles should my team have and how have you all managed your teams remotely?

Long term, I'm looking for something I can be hands off, can live anywhere in the world, and won't have to manage directly.
