How to get the ball rolling?

Hey Everyone,

I was hoping to get some advice on just HOW to start out with real estate. I'm 23 years old, one year out of college working as a Financial adviser with my Dad and sister. I've always been intrigued in real estate investing since high school.

Would you guys suggest using a property management group?

Going out and finding and doing all the work yourself?

Buying a single home or a duplex?

Any advice honestly on just how to get the ball rolling would be greatly appreciated

Thomas,

You started out right by joining BP, there is a lot of information on this site that i recommend you go through. i would also look into any real estate investment meetings that may be held in your area and go to some of them, you can meet and talk to other investors. you will want to also figure out what you want to start investing in and learn as much as you can about it. as far as hiring a PM, that's up to you, if you feel you can be a landlord and do the work yourself, then do it, if not then it may be worth it for you to hire a PM, less time working in the business and more time working on the business then. you will get a lot of different answers to those questions that will make your head spin. I am  a Contractor, my properties are out of State, i have a PM manage them and hire local contractors there to do the work. as long as you calculate for all your costs and can still make money on a property, then any way you want to go about your real estate career is entirely up to you, as long as you can make yourself a profit, and there are many ways of doing that in real estate. I wish you all the luck in the future.
