Pennsylvania Tax Sale Title Question

Steve A Spann
Posted

I purchased a property  at the tax sale in PA at the Upset Sale which is subject to any lien, mortgages etc.  The property is clear except for a signature from the previous owner to quiet the title. I had heard the previous owned died but could not find any information and the courthouse has no death certificate. My question is if I sell the property will a title search show anything different from what i researched?  The reason being if the previous owner passed and there is no estate i will have to pay 15% inheritance taxes. Anyone have any ideas if i could get out of having to pay these taxes if they are deceased?  thank you

I believe you would have to pay the inheritance tax, i have heard of people having to do that in Pennsylvania. @Steve Babiak or @Chris K. may be able to give you some advice on that.
