The Red Road to Real Estate Part 2: Space Shuttle Launch
Starting a business is much like NASA launching a spacecraft into orbit. The task may seem daunting and impossible. Both require countless hours of learning, planning, and system developing. I mean just imagine what it takes to send a two and a half million pound hunk of metal thrusting through the earth atmosphere. But when you hit that orbit. Once all that grit and determination pays off. The campaign you've set out on now just floats effortlessly in earth's orbit. You can take you hand off the controls and that thing will just fly itself. Launching a business and a space shuttle are synonymous in this way. You will have to wake up early and stay up late with a devotion learning. You plan, you train, you develop the systems. You give it all you got just to get ready for launch. Similarly to that ship, on the day of the launch, you can only hope it goes smooth and that rocket doesn't blow up in your face. 3, 2, 1, blast off. You've pulled the trigger and your skins peeled back as you are propelled forward by nearly 2 tons of rocket fuel. No doubt you're scared. You're going 18,000 miles an hour, no looking back now. But when you finally break through the sky and the clouds, it is smooth sailing my friends. If you did it right, the hard work is done. You can just oversee the systems, and reap the reward of diligence.
That's what I'm hoping happens anyhow. I read a great book called the E-Myth Revisited roughly a year ago and it changed my entire perspective on creating a business. As my wife and I prepared this business venture we studied as much as we could about all the processes people utilized to create a consistent and quality product. I also searched extensively for ways to automate as much as I could. As well as structured means for tracking analytics on what would work and not work within the business itself. With special attention to how well our marketing dollars were being spent. From call automation software to customer relationship management and beyond, we have taken advantage of the internet and software programs to the max. I even went to the lengths of actually drafting an operations manual of exactly how our business will be run. I could literally hand it to you and upon reading it you could run our business exactly how we plan to. I've been in the preparing for launch mode for some time now. The launching sequence has commenced, and we are hurtling toward the sky right as you read this. Time to see if we blow up, or come up.
Now to catch you up to speed. It's been our first full week of officially launching our business. Since that time we sent our direct mail campaign out and received the first call just 4 days after! This puts even more of an urgency as we try to finalize our purchase agreement contract before we go meet with our lawyer this coming week. After getting a quick overlook of it with our title company, we decided to restructure it a bit. We have all the other pieces in place. Now we just need to take a deal through it to observe the efficacy of the system. Beyond building our business model and listening to the BiggerPockets podcast every day, I've just been chipping away at my real estate licensing classes. Trying to stay on schedule with that whilst getting our wholesaling business up and running has been a bit of effort. I appreciate you taking the time to check in. Stay tuned folks.
