How did you go from knowledge to action?

Hello all,

I am in a predicament and I need to give a back ground story. I recently quit my job in pursuit of becoming a real estate investor, I have a mentor who recommended I study up on the subject and I have read 7 books on different aspects of commercial real estate investing and have written 50+ pages of notes on the subject for referencing specifically in large Multi-Family's. I feel as if I have the basics down enough to start acting on my new knowledge. Here are some options I have come up with and would love all of your constructive criticism and help.

1) Assemble a team of agents, brokers, attorneys, contractors, etc.  then During my next meeting with my mentor, show him viable properties that are 12-20 units in size and get the ball rolling on a good investment deal. (Some guidance on what I think would be good investments I'd post on here and see what you guys think)

2) Contact really big and successful real estate investors, and explain my goals and why I could be the man for the job to help them find properties their way while learning their process for replication on my own. Since I have 0 obligations, can travel anywhere and talk to anyone, work 24 hours a day if needed.

PS. Of course there are a million steps in between that need acknowledgment that we all know. But I just need help with a direction from here.
