I prefer it to laminate. It has a beautiful look, very Matte/not glossy. This allows it to wear longer and show dirt and scarring less.
Also, we do not use peel and stick kind. We buy it without any adhesive and use our own pressure sensitive adhesive. Then when one plank is ruined, you can pull it straight up since there is no tongue and groove connecting it to the planks near it. This has saved me lots of money.
Thirdly, I really like it's sound better than laminate. I always hated that clicky sound as you walked across a laminate floor. The vinyl plank is very quiet.
Another benefit is how much superior it is for water resistance. Many of my laminate floors were ruined from dishwashers, or even a spilled beverage. Once that happened, you could not just pull out a few pieces without having to take it all the way to the edge of the room. But With vinyl plank, you can wipe the water right up. I even use it in kitchens and bathrooms.
I will say that there is a difference in the quality. Get something with a decent Ml thickness. It doesn't have to be terribly expensive. I have bought mine by the pallet at as little as $.79 a square foot.
But, it is not right for every house. I have lower end lease option homes, so vinyl plank is ideal for mine. But If the home is really a decent quality, your potential buyer/tenant may find it to be an inferior choice if they are expecting real hardwood.
