My kids about made me cry
I am putting this in the success stories section because I believe I am on my way to success in teaching my kids important lessons in both life and real estate.
Our son is 6 and our daughter is 7. Even though they were really young when we started investing about 4 years ago, we have always talked to them like grown ups when it comes to daddy working on the rental properties. They really love seeing the houses and all the work being done to them. They understand that we own the houses and other people pay us to live in them.
I explained to them on Friday that I needed to get them to school early because I had to go and try to serve an eviction notice. Of course wondering what I was talking about I had to explain the eviction process to them. They both understood and climbed out of the truck and went on their way to school. When I picked them up that afternoon my son had not even finished climbing in the truck when he asked with a huge smile on his face "Did you kick them out!?! I smirked and told him no not yet. Without missing a beat my daughter said "If they just would have been responsible and paid their rent they wouldn't be homeless when it is so cold out."
I was beaming with so much pride the whole ride home knowing my kids "get it" and are headed in the right direction.
