Finding good contractors

Hello BP. After struggling with the dilemma of buying a multifamily in a rising Boston market or renting and buying elsewhere, I decided to buy a duplex--or should I say, was able to get one under contract; it was very difficult to get any offer that made financial sense accepted.

My questions now relate to getting the property up and running and making future renovations. In the immediate future, I'll need some roofing work done, and possibly an electrical service upgrade. In the more distance future, I'd like to expand the number of bedrooms and add a bath to one of the units. Can you suggest where/how to find good contractors. There do not seem to be many contractors at the REIA I attend. I've seen people suggested going to a home improvement store early. What do you think of Angie's list? I'd gladly take PM suggestions for roofers, electrician's, plumbers and general contractors in the Boston area.

Thanks for your input.

Austin go to your local supply store and ask the guy behind the desk can he refer you to two guys that can do a heavey up .He see every electrican in your area and he knows who is who.The second trick you can look up permits in your area on line and see who pulled permits for what you want done go up and ask the owner did they do a good job there name and # or on the permits.or last if you see a local building inspector he can tell you real quick and tell you who to stay away from.I am a GC were out there you just have to dig a little to find us.
