I am just starting in real estate looking for a 2 unit property in Edmonton and hope to keep growing afterwards. Using a great lawyer with full knowledge of real estate and rental laws might make the process a lot easier. Any referrals are really appreciated.

As for rental laws you should check out the Landlord Tenant Board in Edmonton as well as look up the RTA for Alberta (Residential Tenancy Act). This will spell out the laws. The lawyers typically deal with the purchase and sale transaction.
