ISO good REI accountant in Maryland
Hi BP,
I'm new to REI and looking to build my team per the Ultimate Guide. Does anyone have a recommendation for a great accountant in the Silver Spring, MD/Baltimore area?
Thanks!
Alison
The most intensive turbo tax , I saved 3000 dollars last year. Do some adding of receipts yourself then go on a vacation
Do not feel like you need to use someone local. Many of us accountants have clients worldwide. Payroll, bookkeeping, etc can mostly be done remotely.
Here is a great list of questions to ask a potential accountant:http://www.biggerpockets.com/forums/51/topics/70447-questions-to-ask-a-cpa
Also check out the www.NAEA.org page in your search. It should help you find someone local. If someone comes to me, I'll send them your way.
If you need help in your search or want to verify something don't hesitate to ask.
For example: I have clients worldwide and things are just as easy as I e-mail them, talking on the phone. I even use Skype and TeamViewer to communicate with clients so I'd highly recommend looking for one of the best with great references that interviews well with you.
So look for someone you can connect with that works out for your situation.
Feel free to ask here if you have questions.

@Account Closed ,
Do you visit a doctor for their opinion or do you self diagnose?
Thanks @Account Closed -- nice to have the range of perspectives on the question!
@Steven Hamilton II I self diagnose of course, and save thousands doing exactly what my accountant used to do. Then again, I was an accounting/finance major so I know what he charges for I will have little difficulty replicating with the aid of turbo tax, just never had the time. Then he decided to get greedy so I had to cut him out...being that he also uses an automated software to do taxes... but of course you don't also use an automated accounting software.....
As far as a doctors opinion, WebMD anyone?
Use TurboTax if you have the time, anything one man can do another can do.... would've cost me 3500 instead of paying my secretary 400 bucks to add all the receipts/ group them and 70 for turbo tax....may I suggest the Atlantis in the Bahamas? sure they cheat blatantly at the casino but the marine environment is stunning.
complacency always costs money,

Who were you using? I have spoken with several CPAs and none come even halfway close to charging 3K plus.
My issue with Turbotax is I do not have the time, and quite frankly I believe I would miss something especially when it comes down to state tax accounts in multiple states, and payroll for employees.
Google the Wealth Building CPA @Ebere Okoye
@Steven Hamilton II is a great assest as well give him a shout, as he said CPA does not have to be local.

Nothing wrong with that if you're confident you can do as good a job...
Just the flip side of the coin, I have an MBA and have always been comfortable doing my own taxes. Yet, every time I meet with my CPA, he gives me ideas on how to structure my business, how to leverage deductions, etc, in order to save many, many times the amount of money he charges me (which is quite a bit less than $3K).
So, while you may be comfortable doing your own taxes, consider that there are other reasons for having a great tax professional on your team...the great ones will save you much more than they cost.
This isn't necessarily addressed to you, Seth, but to others who wonder if they should be going it alone...
