Upping my reading game
I’m really trying to up my reading game. I’d like to read at least 1 to 2 books A month. However when I am reading self-help books or business books there seems to be a lot of fluff in them.
Has anyone tried the Cliff Notes version of business books? Blinkist? It seems that they would shorten the book obviously. And then if I really wanted to dive into one of the principles that the book offered then I could go purchase the entire book.
For example I'm reading Jockos book on the extreme ownership. Every chapter starts with him in a "foxhole". That goes on for 15 pages. I would much rather the writer just get to the point.
Anyway...

@Benjamin Burket @Alan Davidson I try my best to be an avid reader myself. I have tried blinkist but it did not work for me. The idea is great but the reality of the situation for me is if you spend hours reading a book (whether audio or physical) about a particular subject the concepts stick with you. Maybe that is because you have to sort through the fluff to find the parts of the book that resonate with you, and it is the actual process of sorting through that fluff that makes those resonating bits stick out even more in your memory. I listen to everything on 1.5x speed and with blinkist I was able to "tear through" like 4-5 books while cutting the grass one day but the reality after I had done so was that it was all a blur and nothing from any of the books really had a last effect on me. It might work well to re-visit books that you have read previously as a refresher but I have found that (personally, at least) it did not serve as a good way to introduce new, meaningful concepts into my life.
