Noticed some really affordable houses in that area which makes me wonder if there's something wrong. It is close to metro and DC. Why so cheap?  Anything wrong with that area?

I know DC and PG like the back of my hand. I'm not sure how anything in PG has depreciated since the bubble, but they do appreciate much slower than DC. Any of those areas that are right over the border of DC are considered less desirable than others. It tends to be more crime and not so great schools. This is the reason for the lower entry point. That borders SE Washington DC which is the very low income in general. For moving there as a primary it depends on what you are used to but for investment purposes depending on where you are there's forms of increased development and is a marked for gentrification.
