Insurance Company Not Renewing Policy Due to a Claim From a Fire

I have a SFR in Tacoma and just got a notice from my insurance company (First American Insurance/American Modern) that they are not renewing the policy. This is based on a claim related to a fire caused by the current tenant. Any suggestions on my options going forward? Anyone have any other insurance companies that they would recommend? Will there by any issues I need to be aware of in trying to get insurance going forward? Thanks all.

Yes, you now have a big mark on your record. Expect pricing to double or triple for 2-5 years. Call a few independent brokers and find one you like.

Some insurers won’t pull your claim record, they will only ask if you have had any claims in the last 5 years. Resist the urge to say no. If you do and they discover you misrepresented, they can void your policy and avoid paying all claims.
