These grants vary from jurisdiction to jurisdiction, but I can tell you that there are a ton of down payment assistance grants in Maryland, and even more in Baltimore specifically.  This is one of the reasons why its so important to work with a local lender who knows the programs in your area, not one of the big national banks.  I suggest calling a few local realtors and asking them for referrals to loan officers they trust.
