Dallas Water Comany Requires Notarized Application??

Hello all,

I am a SF investor who just purchased a 5 unit building in Dallas.  I signed up online for water service, but was denied because apparently I need a master meter, which requires almost as much documentation as purchasing the property itself!

I was required to fax in:

  • Copy of my Drivers License
  • Copy of my Social Security Card
  • NOTARIZED water service application
  • Signed copy of settlement statement from title company

This seems like a ridiculous amount of red-tape required to set up water and trash service with the city of Dallas.  Is this unusual?

Word to wise for out of state investors looking to buy a multifamily unit in Dallas, be prepared with all your docs before you approach the water department, and give yourself plenty of time. You cannot sign up for service online as you would with a SFR.

Anyway, wondering if anyone else had a similar situation.
