Who has built an Operations Manual for their Note Business?

This past week, I’ve been focusing on rebuilding my operation’s manual for my company from scratch. For those that know me, they know I’m in a perpetual state of launching a new company. As for the op’s manual, I drafted one when I first started my note business and have updated over time, however there is something spiritual about delving into every aspect of your own business and mapping it all out all over again.

I began this approach by:

- documenting every task that is done by my company

- working with my assistant so she documents in fine detail how each task is conducted

- (next step) is to organize the tasks into categories and create a table of contents

- (then), Mind Map each task and organize the visual representation into a booklet.

What is really beautiful about the process is that it makes me rethink every task in terms of:

- do I need to be doing that task?

- how can I improve that task?

- who can do that task for me so I can focus on growing my business (i.e. sourcing, sourcing, and more sourcing)?

- can the task be automated?

The fact that I’m fortunate to be afforded tons of time to work on my business is my definition of FREEDOM.

@Martin Saenz Nice post! I only thought of an ops manual being necessary when taking on employees but didn't think about the benefit of doing the deep dive on your own business. I have a business partner and I can see that having an ops manual would be a good way to make sure that we're on the same page for decision making by making us have the necessary conversations on the things that we don't see eye to eye.

Automation of tasks is critical to reducing wasted time and improving efficiencies. The more efficient you can be, the more you can scale up.
