Curb Appeal - Zeroscape

Anyone with experience Zeroscape.  Have a property on a main avenue into downtown  in a small city , and looking for ways to improve the curb appeal / look while  cutting down on maintenance

 Would gravel be best option .  We get a lot of snow  November through march so don't know how much  planting will survive ?
