Water leaked from toilet on second story

My parents came home to find that the upstairs bathroom had a leak from one of the bolts not being tight enough. The water leaked through the edges of the vinyl floor and now there is a big water stain on in the ceiling in the downstairs kitchen. I can try repainting the wet spot but I want a permanent fix and don't want it to rot overtime. What could i do in this case?

I have added a pic for you guys to see
thanks!

If the toilet is fixed correctly, the only concern is the sheetrock on the ceiling and the subfloor under the vinyl flooring.

Unless this was a long-term leak, I'm sure the subfloor is fine. As far as the sheetrock, paint it with Kilz and then a couple coats of ceiling paint. If the stain comes through again or if there is any indication of mold, just replace that piece of sheetrock.

The nice thing about sheetrock is that it will usually tell you if it needs to be replaced -- look for stains to come back, sagging, discoloration, etc. If you don't see those things, you should be good.
