"MLS" Confusion-someone set me straight!
I am working my way through the BP Podcast and keep hearing the wisdom in getting a realtors license so you can have access to the "MLS." Is this not the same thing as realtor.com, zillow, etc? That is what I've been using for a year now to find and buy properties. Am I missing something? Is the MLS something different?

Hello Kyle,
Great question! Realtor.com and Zillow actually get their information from the MLS (unless its an exclusive, or FSBO listing).
That being said, if it has worked for you in the past, you probably don't need to change your strategy. On the other hand, MLS access will make it easier for you to narrow down your property searches in a more efficient way than you can on public websites.
That being said, its still tough to say you should get your license for the access. There are RE course, MLS, broker, and licensing fees associated and it may not always be worth the time, money and effort put in. If you find a good realtor who is willing to partner up with you, they can provide access, negotiate on your behalf, and coordinate the entire transaction. Usually, their commission is paid for by the seller so there is a good possibility you won't have to pay for this service.
Best of luck to you moving forward!
