Discount Supplies??

I'm just curious where everyone is finding the best deals on rehab supplies??

I felt paying $57 per exterior door lockset was prett ridicolous at Lowes and Home Depot...

Just happen to be strolling through wal mart and noticed a almost identical oil rubbed bronze set cost $27.00

The oil rubbed bronze passage and privacy locks were also 40-50% cheaper...

Cabinent hardware.... Same story.. Knobs are available for 1.50 vs 2.50 at LW & HD.....

Little stuff that adds up quickly...

Just curious where everyone is shopping at both brick and mortar and online vendors..

Check your local Habitat For Humanity Re-Store, they sell donated items, new and used.

You must be buying some upgraded locksets!

The ones I buy are $30 (pre-discount) at Home Depot...and that's for two knob/deadbolt sets, identically keyed...

Btw, the brand is Defiant and SKU on that is 492-487.

i agree that it adds up. however, if you do some of the work yourself, it's still 5 time cheaper (exaggerating a little) than having someone else do it.

i'd not buy locks from WM. the quickset exterior locks at HD are $50 each and come with a deadbolt. i love those (used to love them, now i just like them) since i can re-key in under 4 seconds. quality is really important when tenants are involved. i want things to last. i dont want to replace it again in 4 months.

i buy some things online. like condensate pumps, humidifiers. but you can't beat HD prices. $20 for a bath faucet that looks pretty good is a great price.

food for thought - imagine how much things would be if 90% of the items were NOT made in china. mind blowing, huh?

but people love to complain about how bad china is. (dont want to veer the thread in the wrong direction)

I have seen no evidence that HD stuff is superior to WM. They are all pretty much made in China.

I would be curious which locks can be "reekeyed in 4 seconds"? Is this a particular model? They all look the same to me - locking hardware and 2 keys...

Good point about the longevity for rental property...

However this is for flips... I also tend to think that they are all made in china, with the same marginal build quality... Walmart carries Brinkman, and HD lowes carry Qwikset, schlage, etc.etc...

The finish would probably be the area of most variation..

I know the Oil Rubbed bronze finish has worn pretty poorly on my personal residence.

Great thing about walmart is if it breaks, just bring the POS back.. It's absurd the stuff they will take back without hesitation.

Another thing to add is I've found considerable savings on crown, base, doors, etc from Pro Build lumber as opposed to Lowes and HD.

I can buy lockets all day at Menards for 11 with a deadbolt.

They get changed after each tenant, some go rotation, some to the trash.

If its a lock only can buy those for 6. I have yet to have one fail with a few with 6+ years on them.

I differ, I have no problem paying 65 for a delta faucet b/c once that cheap one starts dripping I'm going to pay more than that in water.
