Board and batten exterior siding

Hello,

I’m about to paint my hardie board and batten siding but have heard mixed opinions on the caulking. Do all the boards and battens need to be caulked around? I have heard not to caulk around the batten so moisture can release Incase it gets trapped inside, but also heard caulk all around battens also to block and moisture going in.
