Worst home projects/features/products?

Hi everybody. My name is Melinda Fulmer and I write for MSN Real Estate. I'm working on a story, looking at the most overhyped, wasteful or problematic features/products that people install in their homes. Have granite countertops jumped the shark? What else have you found to be a total waste of time and money? Please share your vote and personal stories, or private message me. My deadline is Wednesday 6/23.

Thanks!
Melinda

Oh my gosh, yes. Tried having the big box store install carpet. 2,000 square foot house with some extensive linoleum and they measured the house as needing 3600 sq ft of carpet.

The weirdest feature I see used extensively in upper level homes is the pot filler faucet over the stove.

What? No drain for that water. It's nuts. It's not hard to imagine water running everywhere after a few seconds inattention.

It's bad enough to be too lazy to carry a pot of water to the stove, but a faucet with no drain?

I haven't used one, but those handsome shallow bathroom sink basins sitting on top of the counter top..... I suspect that when you turn the water on, it hits the basin, shots up the side and splashes all over.
