Vinyl plank vs laminate redux

I posted this in the pro area and didn't get any replies.  Maybe this is a better forum?

Any thoughts on the comparison?  Can people "tell"?  Does it impact the appraisal?  I was told that the vinyl doesn't get water damaged the way the laminate does- and I've seen edges of laminate come up from water... but I've also need laminate that advertises that it is guaranteed against water...
