Curb Appeal - Suggestions Wanted

This will be our first flip, and we want to do it right. We are looking for suggestions to maximize curb appeal for this house. So... this is your chance to help out a newbie get started right.

What would you do to make the exterior of this house look good? We want to create a warm, inviting, classic feel, so we are looking for ideas for:

  • Front door - color/style
  • Shutters
  • Trim color (including garage door and area above garage)
  • Other?

Please note:

  • The roof will be most likely be replaced with black shingles
  • Garage door will be replaced, and will likely have “small windows" in the top row..
  • Landscape plan will come after colors selected for front door

I am including two photos from different times of year and different angles. Note that the front door is inset from the front brick wall by about 3 feet - providing a narrow "shelter" when opening the door.

@Mike Kroupa

Congrats on your first flip!

For curb appeal I would do the garage and trim in white. For shutters, I would do black(and they aren't dated;)) Like others suggested I would get rid of the big bush, to help open the walkway. I love using boxwoods in front of homes, but not sure if they are popular in Kentucky. Also maybe add some flower boxes in front of the windows(just a thought)?

And while red doors are good to use, you already have red brick, so the reds together would clash or conflict with one another, so I would go with a wood door that has a glass in it. Also I would upgrade the porch light. See below for some ideas.

I like the wood color of this one. It would go great with the brick.

You could go black, but again use a door with glass windows to break up the color.

Then it looks like people are using red doors with red brick, however there is a good amount of white trim surrounding to separate the colors.

Porch light style

Hope this helps!
