Building a house

Hello i have a few questions. I live in Richmond Virginia and was looking to build a starter home to re sell. I was wondering if my step dad was the General Contractor on average what would it cost per sqft to build. I have been hearing 80 to 120 depending on how nice the house is. I was just wondering since we would be our own GC how much would we save per sqft roughly ?

If your step dad is going to be the general contractor and he cannot answer these questions himself why do you think he would be saving you any money? If he can't estimate costs, he probably does not have good enough relations with the subs to save anything. He might add to your costs. You might be better off hiring a gc who can quote a price to build your plans.
