Ideas needed - removing a door

To increase kitchen cabinet/counter space on my current project, I'm removing an exterior door.  Unfortunately, the exterior is brick and I'm not sure how to close this off without it looking horrible.  Anyone done this before or have an idea?  This is on the rear of the house.

I agree with Michael Stanton, have you discussed this with code enforcement yet? Are you leaving the required avenues of escape if you seal it off? If you could show us more pictures of the entire area around the door we could better visualize what you're hoping for after its finished.
