Can't find good North Denver contractors

I'm currently living in a 3/2 1980 house (appr. 1600 sf) on a couple of acres of land in a north Denver suburb. Ready to add a garage and do full rehab. Hope this is the right forum to get some tips for finding the right team. Anyone I've found so far recommends scrape with new 4500sf home or $250/sf rehab as they aren't very interested. While the scrape might do well I don't feel it would compete well in the neighborhood...let alone cost to carry. Would I have better luck breaking into phases (basement, kitchen, garage) and interviewing specialists in each?
