Insulating Window Inserts Anyone?

Has anyone tried insulating window inserts? I have properties with older windows. The windows are still solid, but are not good at insulating. These inserts seem to solve that problem and are quite cost-effective.

At a quick glance this looks to be the same concept of placing plastic sheets over the windows during the winter months.  This will change the function of the window to a "fixed" non-operable window when installed.  I see this a something that will pulled out from time to time during the year to open the windows and get fresh air.  For the price its worth trying one.  I would not consider this a permanent fix to the problem.
