Removing soot and black tar from brick?

I'm finishing up a burnout rehab and am trying to remove the evidence from the exterior brick. After power washing I've removed 70% of it. I'd like to know from any experienced rehabbers who've dealt with this and what are some products that are effective at removing carbon and soot from brick.
