septic tank - houston

anybody in Houston ever own a house with a septic tank before? i am in contract to buy one with a septic tank. the house was built 1965 and the system is as old as the house. Not sure what thing to look out for and who to call regarding this.  Any info is much appreciated

I don't live in Houston, but where I am, septic tanks are very common. Septic tanks are designed to last 50+ years depending how they are cared for (no grease and such) and without tree roots growing into the leeching field. If you are concerned about the functionality of it, call a septic tank company to inspect it. Some even go as far a tracing the lines with a camera. They will give you a report and tell you if it is working or not and you can go from there. Also, check with your municipality to make sure they don't force you to hook up to a sewer if its available. Hope it helps
