primer vs primer/sealer

My bedroom ceiling has been repaired, and there is now a hawk and trowel finish on it. Today I've primed it, and planned to paint it tomorrow, Sunday.
Should I have used a primer/sealer? What's the difference between a primer and a primer/sealer?

Should I get a primer/sealer and re-do the ceiling before painting it?
