What price do you get on various flooring types per sq ft?

Hello everyone,

I'm just starting my third renovation project. I've worked through most of the details, but I'm wrestling with flooring. I've read all the posts about which type of flooring and why. But I was just wondering what price per square foot you normally get quoted for various flooring types. I would want the price including labor and materials.

1) Carpet

2) Laminate

3) Vinyl planks

4) Refinish hardwood floors

5) Ceramic tile

I'm trying to find a nice middle ground between price and durability.

Mike

It can vary a lot.  Carpet can be under $1/sqft total but it will not hold up well with some tenants.  For laminate/engineered/vinyl install you can probably find $1/sqft labor plus materials.  Refinishing hardwood and tile might be 2-4/sqft labor plus the cost of the tile or the cost of the polyurethane/stain/sandpaper.

I usually do flooring myself and go with laminate because it's cheap (.39-.89/sqft), fast and easy to install, looks nice, and is durable.  I get primed pine shoe molding from home depot for 0.23/lf or white mdf base molding for 0.57/lf.

To install you need a floor kit, hammer, and table saw.  For the trim, you will need a miter saw, and will probably want a compressor and finish nailer.  You will also want an undercut saw or sawzaw with long blade for cutting door jambs.
