Upgrading Kitchen - Is it possible to sell granite countertops?

Jesse Kedy
Posted

We're planning to upgrade a large kitchen (repainting cabinets, new hardware, and new countertops). The existing granite is in perfect condition, but we're looking at changing colors. Attaching an image of the island as an example (140" x 51"). There is significantly more than this in the entire kitchen.

Any ideas on how / who to sell this granite to?

We're in NOVA (Northern VA).

Don't take this personally, but that is not considered particularly attractive granite, it's old school 'speckled' granite. And even if it were stunning newer granite of quartzite, removing installed granite is difficult and usually will crack as it is glued down with some sort of caulk. I've had to remove granite that was only installed a day or two before and it was tough enough.

If you really want to try to sell it, first see how the removal goes first. IF it all comes of easily, then you could list it for sale. But the buyer would have to have a kitchen layout EXACTLY like yours...to the 1/8 inch. Highly unlikely!

They would have to have a smaller layout and then completely re fabricate the whole kitchen.....

It's basically just not worth it. Your granite guys will charge you more to remove it because they have to go so slow, and a potential buyer would have to want that exact color. And they will only offer you pennies on the dollar. This is just unfortunately a bad idea all around....
