Flooring: Pergo Outlast+ vs LVP
Could not find a recent review, so I'll leave this here.
We are currently rehabbing a high end rental property here in Milwaukee and I was looking into flooring options for living-breakfast-kitchen. We normally LVP kitchens with a stone/tile look, but in this case I wanted to have a wood look troughout the entire area. A friend recommended Pergo Outlast+ from Home Depot. I have seen in person. It looks very nice and also sounds solid when you walk on it (using the Pergo underlayment). The price is attractive at about 3.6 plus 80ct for the underlayment.
Pergo Outlast+ is the middle one of 3 quality levels and is specifically rated for bathrooms and kitchens and advertised as waterproof. But since the core is made of particle board I was sceptical and put a smaple to the test. I submerged it for 24 hours in a bucket of water and it came out still pretty solid. It is a click-type installation product and the thin edges did not show any signs of swelling or loss in strenght. I did however notice a minimal of swelling at the corners on the side where the product was cut. It is only noticeable when you put it on a stone countertop. That seems to be the weakness, because obviosuly along the walls (and cabinets) there wil be a lot of cuts. The warranty excludes standing water and plumbing leaks - this is probably the reason.
So while I am impressed with how waterproof it is, this is a kitchen with dishwasher ina rental property, so we will go with LVP which I know is 100% waterproof as it's core is just plastic.
However Outlast is a much superior product compared to good old laminate we usually tear out, which swells around the edges when mopped wet and also looks shiny. I'll definitly keep it in mind for future projects: for a flip, my personal home or rooms that don't have plumbing even in a rental property I think Outlast+ is an great option.
