Does this list match your expectations? 

A couple facts I did not know. Calif has the largest budget surplus at 32 billion.

NYC has 48 fortune 500 companies! Probably all located within a few blocks of each other.

Spoiler Alert.

North Dakota is number 1.

“North Dakota's 2013 GDP per capita was the second highest in our rankings at $68,804.”

I don’t mean to bag on North Dakota, but the measure of GDP per capita doesn’t mean too much when the state’s population is 739,000, or about the size of Greensboro-High Point, NC.

Their economy is a one trick pony. If oil and gas go into a bear market, they will feel much pain. In fact, I bet they are sweating the past few months’ energy prices.
