What is a best option to go with 150 K for new investor

Hi guys, 

Some of my friends who are in real estate are saying that there is no sense to go for auction with 150 K. Because the bids are going very high. Instead makes more sense to find a price proper real estate and invest into it. Want to know what do you think.
