SEO much? Want to try a link building exercise?

Albert Brown

Hello everyone,

I am wondering if anyone in this community is up for a group exercise called “content connections.”

What is the goal? To build editorial links.

So, in the last couple years, especially after the Penguin and Rank Brain algorithm updates, link building has been thought of as being less helpful.

But the fact of the matter is that of 200+ ranking factors, link building still accounts for 23% of the decision of where you rank. And please, you can cross-reference my statistics.

Now, I said “editorial” links—what do I mean?

I mean links that link out to someone that you are also writing about. You have to make a decision to write about the subject of the link prior to the publication of the content.

In other words, the link is PART of the reason you are writing/making the content you’re making.

So, how it actually works is this way.

  • 1.You post in the thread something you would like linked to.
  • 2.You see what others have posted and figure out a topic that will allow you to link to 2 – 4. (Don’t forget your keywords search, though!)
  • 3.Create that content.

Some FAQs/anxieties.

Q: isn’t this a black hat activity?

A: No. If you were to make links to others simply because, and you add the links to pages in haphazard ways, then yes, it would be black hat.

But this exercise is content-oriented, and you’re making editorial decisions based on socializing. It would be no different than meeting someone in person, liking their content, and linking out to it in your next blog post.

Q: What if I do not like to write, but I want to participate?

A: One of the BEST SEO strategies I’ve ever seen is embedding a video you created into a page, and then using the transcript for Google’s crawl. Theoretically, you can do this with any other type of content, including podcast or audio files.

Do these other forms of media instead of writing
