Shortsale purchase/Sold on contract

Can I buy a house on short sale and sell it back to the owner on contract? If so are their time limits? Can I rent to them first? I am trying to help a family keep their home.

Typically this would be an absolutely not legal scenerio for a buyer, violation of arm length transaction.

I believe non profits may be able to offer rent backs but this would need to be researched.

Not sure if you can sell a house back many years down the road legally either to previous borrower.
