First Time Investor Looking For Advice and Connections
Hi All! I grew up in Grand Rapids and Grand Haven until I graduated from GVSU in 2018 and moved to Scottsdale, AZ for 2 years. I am now back in Michigan, and bought a house in North Muskegon.
I am looking to buy my first rental property this year after being hit with the real estate bug. I am pretty confident I want to buy in the Muskegon area because of the prices and close proximity, but am also considering Grand Rapids. Another thing I am considering is either paying all cash, or leveraging and buying one property to get the feel of things and then buy a couple more.
Last weekend I took an hour or so and did a drive by of some properties I found on Zillow to get a feel for the different streets and neighborhoods. My time frame for buying my first property is still about 6 months out at least, so I am still in my "research" phase.
I just finished "The Book on Rental Property Investing" by BiggerPockets' Brandon Turner, which is how I discovered this site. I am reaching out to get any information possible about investing here in the area, network with local investors, and anything else worth sharing!
I look forward to making connections, learning all I can about rental property investment, and getting involved in Michigan real estate!

Hi George,
If you have the cash to be doing all cash purchases but are comfortable with using some leverage I would suggest using the BRRRR strategy. It's a pretty powerful strategy and it's the one I use. I'm active in Holland but also interested in Muskegon. Reach out anytime.
