How do you calculate your real estate asset allocation?

Good evening BP,

I was just wondering how everyone figures their allocation to real estate in their overall portfolio? It is easy enough to see what your allocation to stock and bonds are, but what about real estate.  Do you use the amount of money that you have into the deal, the equity in the property, or the overall value?  Or...?

Thanks
