Painter Damaged the Place
This was a NIGHTMARE!!! RUN AWAY! Details: my realtor did this guy Javier a favor by brining him on the job to paint the place (Beyond Dwellings LLC with apparently WITH ZERO TO NO EXPERIENCE). Right at the start he started whining about how HE Underestimated the Cost of the job.
Then his team of unskilled (I didn’t know at the time) illegals show up without their boss and speaking not a lick of english so I can’t even ask them to take off their shoes before they track some kind of dirt/grease throughout the carpets.
Oh it gets worse... after I had left and came back they said they were done (or I think that’s what they were saying) and it looked like a bunch of 6 year olds did the job ~ didn’t even take the outlet and switch covers off, but painted around and in some cases over them.
Then they totally wrecked the carpets by tracking paint throughout. The masterbedroom carpet had the ring from the 5 gallon paint buck on it for Christ’s Sake!
After trying to work this out by having them come back, nothing was resolved and we had to hire professional carpet cleaners and I’m still finding areas I have to fix where they got paint on the ceiling or trim, etc. The carpets will never be the same.
I made a good faith effort to pay Javier half because I didn’t want to sour things with my realtor but he then threatened to put a lien on my place.
I’ve now retained a lawyer and I’m going to sue him for damages. He should have accepted the half payment and been apologetic about it.

@Scott Andrews don’t take this the wrong way, but it sounds like you didn’t do good due diligence. Taking the Extreme Ownership angle, I suggest reading this book immediately, this is your fault. I mean you don’t speak Spanish and that’s fine, but it is 2019, google has translators available.
It seems like your realtor had some guy they knew and you said sure, without checking up on previous work or other clients. I personally think you should roll with the punches on this and learn this lesson.
