Home Depot vs Lowes, In general which one is better?

     Whichever one is closest to the property. The amount of Time you spend going to the store eats up any differences in savings.

    Generally, Home depot is better for construction type materials (the things you don't see) and Lowes is better for "finish" (things that you see in a home) type materials but both are good for either.

    ACE Hardware and stores like that are better for "get in and get out" (faster service) types of items that the big box stores don't do like cutting glass or other specialty needs but they carry a lot of the things you need as well.
