So I'm talking to my girlfriend, who lives in Los Angeles. She currently lives at her parents house and her dad is a very avid gardener. In their back yard they have a couple banana trees he planted.

Well, in the middle of the night someone came in and stole one of the bunches of bananas - came in with a knife or a machete and cut it off the tree. Naturally they were scared about someone coming into their yard/house in the middle of the night with a knife so they filed a police report.

The police came to their house and took a statement and then advised my girlfriend and her parents to purchase a gun to keep in the home. They said to her that if a person comes into your house in the middle of the night and wants to hurt you, there is nothing the police can do for you as they are not there. They said a gun is what will protect you until the police arrive. This is what the LOS ANGELES police said to her.

Think about this folks.... This is the Los Angeles police department telling her this, from arguably one of the most anti-gun areas of the Unites States....

Protect yourself - especially if you're in a business where you're likely to piss people off.

Its a misconception that CA is anti-gun. The largest gun show I've even been to, and I've been to a bunch, is (was?) at the LA county fairgrounds. Huge, huge show. We had to stop doing that show when CA banned magazines larger than 10 rounds.
